Subtraction Clip Cards (Subtraction within 10)

Practise basic subtraction skills with this huge pack of 156 clip cards!

These clip cards has been designed to help your child/students subtract within 10. 

There are five different sets of clip cards included, with each set getting progressively a little more challenging as your child gains confidence with subtraction.

Sets 1 and 2 begin by introducing subtraction using pictures, such as of groups of dots, stars or bears.  For set 1, objects have been crossed out to show the number being ‘taken away’ / subtracted.  In set 2, the cards still have pictures but there are no crossings out.  Instead, children can cover or cross out the number being subtracted themselves.  Set 3 then progresses to number sentences without pictures. 

The final two sets of cards are extra challenge cards and are best left until your child has worked through the first three sets.  In sets 4 and 5 you'll find true/false cards  as well as ‘missing number’ cards.  These will really get your child/students thinking!

The five sets of clip cards included in this pack are as follows: 

Set 1:  Subtraction within 10 using number sentences and pictures with crossings out (36 cards)

Set 2: Subtraction within 10 using number sentences and pictures without crossings out (36 cards)

Set 3: Subtraction within 10 using number sentences only (36 cards)

Set 4: True or false quiz cards - say whether the subtraction number sentence show is correct or not (24 cards)

Set 5: Missing number cards - fill in the missing number in each subtraction number sentence (24 cards)

How to use these clip cards

First print and cut out the cards along the dotted lines.  If you can, print the clip cards onto card stock or laminate them to make the cards a bit more robust.  You’ll also need some clothes pegs.

For each clip card, your child/students will need to look at the question and then show their answer by clipping a clothes peg onto the correct answer box at the bottom of the card.  With the exception of the true/false cards there are three answers to choose from on each clip card.
